As Sri Lankans, normally we eat a lot of rice in our houses, we always have leftover curry dishes and rice. My mom makes this dish using those leftover things. If my mom finds any leftovers at the end of the day, she always makes this dish using those curries and rice.

 

My dad always says that it tastes like biryani when my mom makes it.

Most of you might know about this dish. My dad always says that it tastes like biryani when my mom makes it. Normally since we eat a lot of rice in our house, we always have leftover curry dishes and rice. My mom makes this dish using those leftover things. If my mom finds any leftover at the end of the day, she always makes this dish using those curries and rice.

 
If you are making this dish, there should be some dishes that will make this dish even tastier
 
You can put any curry in this, but if you have a leftover sprats curry or dried fish curry, that would be the best type of curry to use in this dish. The more you add these types of curry, the more it’s going to taste. Not only that if you guys have any beans curry, potato curry, carrot curry, or even a brinjal curry, you can also add that to this dish. But I should say that, although I said that you can use any curry, I do not suggest you use any fish or any meat curry when making this dish. But add some sprats curry or dried fish curry because those dishes are the key ingredients for this dish. Also, I should note that, do not add any breadfruit curry or jack fruit curry because it will change the taste of this dish.

  • Beans Curry
  • Potato and Carrot Curry
  • Brinjal Curry
  • Fried Brinjal Curry
  • Kohila Curry
  • Capsicum / Banana Pepper Curry
  • Makaral / long beans curry

This is how you make it

First, take that leftover rice and mix a few curries that you have leftover.

And keep it on the stove and cover it with a lid. Make sure to add that sprats or the dry fish curry and If you guys can, I highly suggest you use a clay pot.

And after a while, you will hear rice popping inside that clay pot and that’s the signal that it’s cooked. Also, make sure that the bottom of the clay pot has some blackened rice.
 

And that’s it, yeah that’s the easiest recipe you can make and this dish is called “Kata Bath”.

The best way to enjoy this is, to make this at night and eat this in the morning and trust me, it will taste like heaven. So make this and let me know how it tastes.
